Unlike direct-to-card dye-sublimation printers, the CE840 uses retransfer (reverse transfer) printing technology — which prints the image onto a transparent film first, then thermally fuses it to the card surface. This process produces edge-to-edge printing with no white borders, works on cards with uneven surfaces (such as smart card chips and RFID inlays), and delivers superior image durability. The CE840 supports simultaneous dual-sided printing, multiple smart card and magnetic stripe encoding modules, and optional security lamination overlaminates — making it the platform of choice for national ID programmes, corporate access control badge issuance, and high-security credential production in the GCC region.

What is the difference between retransfer and direct-to-card ID card printing?
Direct-to-card (DTC) printers apply the dye-sublimation image directly onto the card surface — fast and cost-effective for smooth PVC cards, but the print head cannot reach the card edge (leaving a white border) and the print head can be damaged by uneven smart card chip surfaces. Retransfer printers like the CE840 print onto a transparent film first, then laminate that film to the card — producing edge-to-edge borderless prints that work perfectly on smart cards with raised chip modules.
