The Fluke 568 is an industrial-grade combined infrared and contact thermometer, providing the flexibility to measure temperature in two modes from a single instrument. Infrared (IR) mode measures surface temperature non-contactly by pointing the instrument at the target surface — ideal for live electrical panels, hot machine surfaces, and areas inaccessible or unsafe for physical probe contact. Contact mode uses a Type K thermocouple probe (sold separately) for direct temperature measurement of fluids, pipes, and surfaces where IR measurement accuracy is limited by emissivity or surface reflectivity. The 568's -40°C to 800°C range covers the broad temperature span needed for both cold storage inspection and high-temperature process equipment. The adjustable emissivity setting (0.10 to 1.00) enables accurate surface temperature measurement on reflective metal surfaces that would otherwise give erroneous IR readings at the fixed emissivity of a basic IR thermometer.
