The Fluke 1AC-II VoltAlert is the industry-standard non-contact AC voltage tester — a slim, pen-sized instrument that detects the presence of AC voltage in cables, sockets, switches, and fuse boxes without making physical contact with any conductor. The tester works by detecting the electric field radiating from energised conductors: bring the tip near a live wire or socket and the tip lights red and emits an audible beep; no voltage, no indication. It is the first tool used by any competent electrician before touching any conductor — confirming that the circuit is de-energised (or alerting that it is still live) before any hands-on work begins. The 1AC-II detects AC voltage in the range 90V to 1000V and is rated CAT IV 1000V for the highest electrical safety classification. The built-in LED flashlight illuminates dark enclosures and trench areas during inspection.
